on a tuesday
making some minor changes to the blog here. sprucing her up a bit.
a tad shy, about the bigger photos. but we'll see.
this little blog, called soul aperture, turned 4 last week ; ) and i love it SO very much. thanks to you, that is... the love, the friendship, the laughter, the tears... i appreciate each one of you.
xo
excuse the dust, during the construction around here. wink!
happy tuesday, my sweet friends.

i made homemade salsa. how could i not, with the beautiful tomatoes in season.
the corn and tomatoes, will soon make room for, yams and collards. oh, the seasons are a changing.
the warm weather is deceiving, the calendar reminds me, summer seems to be packing it's bags. sigh.
were getting ready for school to begin next week. i have had such a blast spending this summer with you~ almost daily : ) back to teaching for me. and surprisingly my kids are ready, i can't argue with that~
wink.
i do look forward to fall, i think it's sure to bring it's own adventures, with it's arrival.
how are you?

yesterday we walked into our favorite antique shop. and there she was.
isn't she something?
it was as though she knew my name
and gently called me over
; )
i stood before her dreaming of all the letters that had been written from her
hmm...
look at those legs
she has a beautiful bottom base... for books maybe?
did i mention her beautiful legs?
how about those curves?
as i stood there falling in love. the shop owner spoke to me about her history.
the owner said he gathered a few beautiful pieces from an estate sale where most of the items were circa 1915-1921. she was marked 1915. but all that doesn't matter~ her tag read, library/mission desk. doesn't that read beautifully? : )
and before i knew it, hubby was whispering little things in my ear...
writing letters
writing that cookbook
editing photos
listening to music
"a gift from me to you"
poetry
and so she came home with us
; )
even my mother couldn't help but smile at the sight of my new desk
she said it reminded her of a desk, where my, great aunt, used to write and read her bible.
i loved hearing that~
so, pink majolica, roses, found their way into my cart today.
oh i love them SO.
the news paper is still all over the house
my red beans are soaking for monday ; )
happy sunday, my friends!
ps: love to new orleans. hurricane katrina still leaves me tender. my faith leads me.
one love~

to say anything about that. It is my birthmark."

hi there, my friends.
i made a huge batch of granola yesterday. i added lots of cashews, and walnuts~ along with honey, nutmeg and vanilla. so breakfast is greek yogurt and a bit of the crunchy granola ; )
last night, my sweet girl and i, painted each others nails~ times like that, are magic, sheer magic.
have you entered the giveaway, for my photo? tomorrow is the last day, to enter. i hope you win. : )
i happily signed up for this. i can't sketch, but i will try + have fun. and i think it will be great for our classroom, here at home.
when i saw this butterfly, it painted a daffodil yellow, across my thoughts...which brought me to the beauty of "in the time of daffodils"
"in time of daffodils (who know
the goal of living is to grow)
forgetting why, remember how"

i met the sweetest bloggers, today, over coffee.
marilyn had the most beautiful color in her eyes. the light would hit them, and i couldn't help but beam, inside.
and beth had the warmest smile, that welcomed me, over and over, throughout the day.
there was conversation, with laughter and understanding.
there was a comfort at that table, in the coffee shop. a comfort that fed my soul.
women tend to do that, for one another. : )
i wish you could have been there. i thought of you all, often. we even spoke of you... i couldn't help but mention, how i appreciate every comment, you leave here....
how when you take the time to come here + visit, it means the absolute, world to me.
i am grateful.
life is good.
that's all~

my grandmother called this recipe, banana and blueberry bread. this is one, of maybe three, recipes she wrote down. : ( she was a marvelous cook. she cleaned houses on the lake, and would cater parties part time. "word got out that she was cooking" my aunt used to tell me.
if my grandmother, wasn't available to cater an event, people would literally change the date of their parties. i love that story.
she taught me to cook. : )
on the bottom of this recipe, she wrote~ "sprinkle with conf. sugar, slice and serve moist pieces as coffee cake." she was so right.
i have this tingly feeling in my heart, like i should write my recipes down, since they are all in my heart. and while that is lovely, it's not where i prefer my recipes, to remain. im for the sharing the love, taking the guessing out of family recipes. ; )
this is important to me... now where to begin. : )
happy day, my friends.

the sun is barely up on this sunday morning. it makes for a different kind of light, behind my lens. i am enjoying this moment, before anyone else is awake. pleased with a moment, where i don't have to think about anything in particular, where the biggest decision is~ slipping back under the covers or making coffee. but my mind drifts to poetry, poetry of the birds splashing in a puddle, from the rain that was delivered the night before, poetry of the beautiful words written about roses or forgiveness.
happy sunday, my friends.
ps: thank you SO very much, for the etsy love. one of my photos, was even chosen to be part of a treasury. beaming!
won't you please leave a light on for me? i will be around to visit later today. : )

on a friday
happy day!
are you doing well?
smile~
i have gotten two loads of laundry done already, isn't that something? uhem... for me it is. : )
i finally got around to framing a few photos, that i took. as many years as i have taken photos... i don't know... it feels nice though. i must admit that. i dig art, mine and yours. xo
i updated my shop this morning. swoon! sales sales+ new prints. oh i hope you like browsing around there. ; )
any plans for this weekend? i really am going to take it easy....
slow
slow
i am thinking of mixing some blueberries, with some over ripe bananas i have + walnuts~ a coffee cake, perhaps. that would be a lovely treat, for a sunday morning.
after a quick mop of the floor, while listening to marvin gaye~ i think i will indulge in some sweet magazine reading. deep sigh, for fridays. ; )
oh yes~
won't you stop in at the sweetheart se'lah's place, and enter your name to win this balloon print of mine?
i would love to see it in your home. it has the sweetest jewel colors. wink!
happy weekend, my dear friends.

"I'm coming back tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that and the day after that."
from the book, "the secret garden" ~by frances hodgson burnette
ice box cakes
jump rope
sweet tea
those two pockets on my grandmothers apron
penny candy
side walk chalk
bicycles with pretty baskets and streamers
the smell of dill in the garden
the lights of the bodega
paths that lead no where
light that leads the way
jazz in the park
lightening bugs
first kisses
the word~ enchanting
picnic blankets
that old house with the pantry
naps
old movies dancing across white sheets in the backyard
that old projector
flip flops
bare feet
daisies
love
yes
love
wanting to go higher on the swing
yellow kitchen floors
a simple walk
: )
