my grandmother called this recipe, banana and blueberry bread. this is one, of maybe three, recipes she wrote down. : ( she was a marvelous cook. she cleaned houses on the lake, and would cater parties part time. "word got out that she was cooking" my aunt used to tell me.
if my grandmother, wasn't available to cater an event, people would literally change the date of their parties. i love that story.
she taught me to cook. : )
on the bottom of this recipe, she wrote~ "sprinkle with conf. sugar, slice and serve moist pieces as coffee cake." she was so right.
i have this tingly feeling in my heart, like i should write my recipes down, since they are all in my heart. and while that is lovely, it's not where i prefer my recipes, to remain. im for the sharing the love, taking the guessing out of family recipes. ; )
this is important to me... now where to begin. : )
happy day, my friends.
one love~

40 ladlefuls of love:

THE BOWL! I'm coming up to "borrow" it ;-) That coffee cake looks so good and moist!
I think I drooled a little looking at your photos of blueberry scrumptiousness...
I loved reading about your grandmother too.
my grandmother also cleaned houses and catered parties with her mad cooking skills. unlike you, i am not the cook who has taken after her, i am not the keeper of her recipes. but i AM the keeper of glorious memories of the exquisite and earthy fair she served at her table.
grandmothers who cook change lives.
xo, graciel
Oh I see those purex bowls that match my Holly's set of dishes that she found a set of on the World's Longest Yard Sale!! We also found the green glasses to match!! The bread is scrumptious looking...love the sugar on your hands....
I was just talking to a friend of Holly's from New York today about my Grannie's cooking. Her family is coming to our house in Alabama for Christmas and a southern cooked meal this year!! Fun!
Still having fun in Louisiana,
Cora

I have a recipe in my grandmother's handwriting for saurkraut casserole. You heard me right, it's an acquired taste. But it's in her handwriting, so even if I never make it, it will be one of the most precious things that I own.

your daughters would cherish in years to come...the handwritten recipes. i know i do my mothers.
that looks so wonderful
Yum, that looks so good! MY Mother in Law is a fabulous cook but has nothing written down. It's always "I put enough in to make it taste right". Kind of glad my husband grew up watching her in the kitchen. :-)
I so love handed down family recipes... they are always the best. Thank you so much for sharing this little treasure!

I don't like cooking, but I love making cakes and desserts (besides - I never eat them , that's crazy, isn't it? ;-)). My grandmother, mmm, she is like all these wonderful and warm grandmothers in our world. She's nearly 100 years old. Her kitchen is just the poetry and the delicious love... .
Have a nice day :-))))))))))))
wow, amazing how you can turn pictues of food into art, it so peaceful looking at it.. makes me smile, takes my breath away to see such beauty in food... god bless you and yours..
and yes it looks very yummy...thank you for sharing..
Your Grandmother sounds like a wonderful person, and that cakes looks so good.
Do write those recipes down!
Mmmm...I think I can smell that delicious cake!
Christina ~
Dearest one, I believe you should begin with a book...nevermind talking about it ~ just do it! Your images, your heart full of delicious family recipes, and your way with words....BESTSELLER!
Bisous,
melissa
oh YEAH do the book please, I'd get one too seriously and your children must have your recipes do write them down.
I love that story too! How wonderful! Thanks for sharing it with us. :) I tell you that banana blueberry bread looks dog gone good. Wish I had a piece with a cold glass of milk before bed. Yum. And then more for breakfast. Double yum.
Please write the recipes, Christina. My Mom is a fabulous cook. I have often asked her to write her recipes down. She says she just cooks, that she can't sit & settle her mind to write. Either way, we the family are lucky to sample her eats & treats. I've been writing my recipes down. I don't know what will happen to them, but I love writing them down. Something I really love is your third photo here, with that lone blueberry near the middle of the cut cake... Something about the one blueberry tugs at my heartstrings! Happy Day ((HUGS))
For years we have attempted to duplicate my grandmother's chili. Imagining all sorts of things as her secret ingredient...*deep sigh* :) have a wonderful day and thanks for the beautiful photos!
How I wish my grandmother, mother, mother-in-law all wrote down their favorites...I must start to do that too...I have a few but oh so few done. But I agree with a blurb book...I haven't tasted your cooking but I feel like I have because of your wonderful food photography...you must have photos to go with your recipies!
...my daughter has those bowls too...found second hand...now I wish I kept them:)
Your Grandmother must have been a wonderful cook for people to change their party dates!! This recipe looks so good..i'm sure one day when you are ready you will write down these recipes to share with the next generation.
Begin where you are, of course. In the kitchen. With breakfast. Right?
Book? Y-E-S! That way you will have them to hand down and become famous at the same time : )
this looks wonderful! since your post on blueberry muffins i have been obsessive about muffin making and have been loving every minute in the kitchen. i always thought i hated cooking...even declared it proudly...but i was wrong....i'm my mother's daughter and adore feeding the people i love. i have finally found the person i am meant to love and to cook for him; for us...is something special!
xo.

Will you be sharing this recipes with your readers?
