A trip to the farmers market, just makes all the difference in a day. The farmers, the community gardners, the soap makers, the children by their sides, watching. As I stroll up and down the rows of freshness, it is a sheer form of art to me. Art that touches me deep, in my soul. A stroll to the farmers market, opens my thoughts, brings me to the sweetest paths, on my journey. I tend to look at the hands of these artist... They fascinate me. I respect these people, immensely.
Deep inside, I know that my truth is to grow my own food, make my own soaps, sew, and create for my family. Our little family lives off the motto use what you have. Don't get me wrong, I love to indulge every once in a while... Oh, yes I do. Uhem... camera equipment, books. : ) For me, the simple things, make me feel closer to what's real ; )
Could it be, Autumn is arriving...the leaves, the rain, the evenings becoming darker, earlier. It just made sense, to make eggplant parmesan. It made the perfect meal, to have on the stoop. Of course I thought of you, and ran for my camera. Wink~
How are you, this Monday? ; )
Peace~

The Paris open markets set my mood for the day! As you say, seeing fine produce, buying seasonal ingredients (and then cooking them), makes a big difference.
Yum Yum! Looks delicious! I, too, inhale the beauty and freshness of the Farmer's Market... I feel alive and any ailments I'm feeling that day just dissipate into the air. It's healing to see the hands of the people who grow and make their own..how it was suppose to be in the first place!!! Happy Inspirational Monday!
Back to nature, to the simple life. To creating with our own hands, to feeling like we have been part of what we partake. It truly speaks to the soul.
And I am salivating for this eggplant parmasean...I am the only one in this house who will eat it. Please, may I come to dinner the next time you create this magic?!?
Ah . . . the farmers market and eggplant parmesan. It doesn't get any better than that. Big hugs, my friend. xoxo Gigi

What lovely photos! Wish I could pop on over to your house--that is one my favorite dishes in the world!
Today is the last day of summer...so fall is definitely in the air. We could use a little rain here but the weather is blissful in New England. Enjoy Monday!
ah..th eggplant parmesan gratin !if i could i'd hop over Christina ! :-)
you're so right, nothing beats growing one's own tomatoes....
Have a great inspiring Monday!
Yes! The next 12 months I'm very focused on becoming a lot more self-sufficient. I think step 1 has to be a move away from the city to a simpler existence. I want to be calm and wholesome, rather than harried and looking for convenience!
Love our little farmer's market... love the smell and feel, and love bringing all the freshness home to my table.
Use you've got, baby! It's how I roll, heehee
;-)
(((hugs))),
love,

yum - beautiful meal, beautiful prep
I love the farmers markets around San Diego. I just visited a new one yesterday. Tried some amazing tropical fruits and came home with a bag of passionfruit.
I love your photo of the rainy street. I'm missing the occasional rain storm.
Eggplant parmesan looks so good. What a lovely visit to the farmers market. There is something so beautiful about seeing the farmers with their produce.
Everything about this post is luscious and cozy!
Yum!
It's so exciting to see Farmer's Markets becoming more and more common... especially in more urban areas around here. They are such a treat for the senses.
Love the pics - I can almost hear and smell the rain.
Thank you for sharing.
:)
I'd be better today if I had some of that eggplant parm you made. Mmmm. I can smell it from here!
Today will be all about making a turkey dinner. It is cool, and my body is craving gravy. In a big way. xox
OK, now I KNOW we are soul sisters! Eggplant Parmesan....can life get any better!

I saw someone else post a photo of an eggplant today and I thought that eggplant parmesan sounded like a great thing to make this week! (I'll need to make some chicken parmesan, too. Not all of my family are eggplant fans!)
i would love to eat with you any day on the stoop!
it's beautiful here.
Oh yummy! This looks delicious. Fresh market food is the best! Beautiful reflections in the last photo.
i'm strongly feeling that need to feel closer to what's real. i think it's why i've become mad for crafts of all kinds in the past year. and why i made all kinds of preserves this weekend. and why we're selling the house and buying a small acreage. to be closer to the land. to have a horse. to grow things of our own on a bigger scale. it's a reaction to these times, i think. and i'm pretty excited about it. and now i'm hungry after seeing your pictures...
Happy Monday, Christina! I think I can smell your goodies from here. We were at the Farmer's Market early Saturday. It feeds my soul as much as it does my tummy. And the good folks there have had many a chuckle over the crazy lady who photograps their produce. But I am so in love with all the color that I can't resist. We are trying very hard to "make do" more. At a loss for dinner tonight we settled on grilled cheese (with bread from Saturday's trip) and fresh tomatoes. The only thing we ended up buying was some soup. I need to stock up on that! Phil canned bread & butter pickles, homemade spaghetti sauce, and a mix of sweet peppers and onions. Want to come over?
I love the farmer's markets too. Dinner looks and sounds great. Yes being self sufficient, growing your own food is getting back to our essence, our authentic truth.
:)
The farmers market is a perfect place to ground your energy. I love to be around all the fresh produce and know it came from somewhere local. Your mosaic has put me in such a fool mood...and is making me hungry!!!
Mmmm...yum! I don't think I've ever had eggplant parmesan but it looks so good here in your photos, Christina. You know, you have me thinking that Gourmet Magazine should have a special online issue featuring food bloggers & their gorgeous photos. And those food bloggers could be from anywhere in country, or in the world. Imagine that! I think these photos would make for an interesting spread, don't you?
Oh, that looks good. I made ratatouille from fresh produce last week - and used the leftovers to make a baked ziti this weekend. It is perfect for fall weather. :) There is just something about food .. and photos of food .. and fall .. that makes my heart sing.
Happy Monday!
Ahhh...that is what I say every time I come and visit your site. Your description and pictures of the farmers market and homemade meal send a sense of groundness and warmth and as always love. Thank you for sharing.
Delicious in every way... Happy Autumn to you & yours, Christina! Let's savor, sip and gather slowly... ((HUGS))
Christina,
I love what you say here about farmer's markets being a work of art. They are. There is something about them that brings me to a very deep place of center, of earthiness, of appreciation of this planet's bounty--as well as for those who labor on my behalf. We have a fabulous FM here in my community (actually several, because we have many organic growers in this region) and also one where we visit in Florida in the winter. Going there is often the highlight of my week. Such blessings!
my gosh that food looks sumptuous. if this is the product of the farmer's market I say, continue. eating out on the stoop sounds so nice. we must try it sometime. hope all is well.
My mom and my aunt both made the best eggplant parm. I used to love eating the fried eggplant before it even got to the casserole. ;)
I love that you ate your eggplant on the stoop and watched the world go by. I love that.
A wonderful photo essay of a charming meal and day well spent...you are inspiring me to make eggplant parm this week!
