Yesterday we had a graduation party for my son. Geesh, he is on his way to 9th grade in the fall. ; ) We also made it a special day for all the wonderful fathers, in the family. It was good to see family and friends gather; hear a few accents of home. Wink
; )
I have to admit. I was tender. You know that spot, right inside the heart, where you miss someone? The feeling where you feel like you have packed everything in your car for the picnic, but you keep sensing you forgot something? You know, something is missing... someone is missing. I miss him, so much.
As I watched all the kids play, I knew it was that part of the celebration that kept me afloat. Watching my husband gather the children for a water balloon toss, that positively had my eyes brimming, with tears.
There were a few question for my son about homeschooling, ect. He answered with a smile; basketball in hand, sneakers untied, blue tongue, from popsicles "My mom taught me how to read, how to count, to pray and who Fredrick Douglas was... along with lots of other stuff too. I like the art of Francis Bacon and Kadinsky. No one besides my dad, has ever cut my hair. I think that is cool! And Bob Marley, is the boss! Can we cut the cake now?"
I think I love that.
Happy Monday, my friends.
Mosaic monday is being held at mary's place. ; )
; )

Can I just say that I would love to have a water balloon toss. Man, I miss those days.
I hear you about the feeling that someone is missing. My dad died when I was 20 and now, 8 years later, I still have moments when I forget he isn't here. Such a strange kind of pain...
Congrats on having such a well-rounded son! Enjoy your Monday!
Aww, so sweet, Christina! What a lovely moment you've captured here -- precious in both it's happiness and it's longing... Thanks for sharing your joy at Mosaic Monday. :)
Oh, and congrats to the graduate! :)
Gorgeous mosaic Christina and such a lovely celebration. Your son sounds pretty cool - homeschooling obviously suits him a lot! Even just looking at your photos I get a sense of your day and how wonderful it was and cake also - too perfect! ;)
Very cool post!!
Simply touching. David would be so proud. He was there. You're doing a great job mama.
xo
What a lovely post. I love your son's responses--Douglas and Bacon and Kandinsky--just wonderful. I had that ache inside all weekend, too. My dad died 25 years ago, and if I could have him back just for an hour, just to share a cup of coffee, well, that would be the best day ever. You are a peach.
what a beautiful day, happy times and sweet memories.
bitter sweet moments i am well aware of...these seem mostly sweet!
I did not know you home schooled...you are amazing!
Christina!!! You home school?! Unbelievable! I never knew this! That is too cool!
Such beautiful pictures.
My daddy's been gone way to many years and I still miss him terribly. When I think he missed out on watching his grandbaby grow I miss him more. But we have to focus on what's here with us and you have a wealth of love. Beautiful mosaic.
You must be so proud of your son - he is a testament to his mom and dad's parental skills and guidance! Glad a great time was had by all, despite the bittersweet moments. A very sweet mosaic. xoxox
Congrats to your son and to you for having the energy-saving idea to combine events! The young ladies are so sweet and appear to be lost in thought.
I'd like to homeschool along with him :)
What sweet pictures. Lovely post
Very touching story and lovely mosaic.

sounds like a good time, full of soft hearts and laughter. I didn't realize you home schooled. I would love to hear more about your experience with that.
:-)
S
beautiful post :).. and thanks for thinking of me hugs
I loved your son's answers to homeschooling! My sister (who has 6kids!!!) homeschools. Her oldest son (who is now 17) came to visit us in Europe last summer for a "study abroad" session. Before coming to visit, I asked him "What do you want to see?" expecting him to say London, Paris, typical Americans-in-Europe locales, and my genius of a nephew responded "Wittenberg Germany where Martin Luther was from and Oxford England where CS Lewis was from." I was stunned by his "intellegence" and interests... especially as he researched his route and trips in the months prior to his visit. I don't think I knew who either person was when I was 16! Then a few weeks later another American expat friend was having her nephew (same age as mine) come visit her in Europe... it just so happened he wasn't home schooled, and when she asked him this same question I had asked my nephew, his response was "Hard Rock Cafe." My friend, who had never been a proponent of home school called me that afternoon and said, "Your nephew has proven to me why home school works!" And, hearing your son's answer to the question was equally impressive! Frederick Douglas! Francis Bacon! Kadinsky! You, my dear, should be up for "Teacher of the Year"!
Like mom, like son... :o) What smart, wonderful, fun responses he had! 9th grade soon... The kids grow too fast--LOL! If we had had children, I would loved to have homeschooled. My sister is considering it for her little girl--she's 6 mos now, but school will happen soon enough. What a sweet Sunday you had... Those butterflies in the heart are a good thing. ;o) Happy Day, Christina ((HUGS))
ooh, i love that too... i never had a doubt, i promise, but you were so right when you said that they (both your kids) were good hearted and that i would like them
well, i think i love them!
Gorgeous shots and delightful post Christina! Have a great week!

These are some absolutely BEAUTIFUL children. I would have a field day combing these little girls' hair. Gorgeous!
