Milwaukee art museum
I have an appointment with art today. First up, I am meeting my daughter for a date, at the kitchen table for some fun crafting. I hear it is going to involve tons of bedazzling, scrapbooking and even an act card or two. ; )
Insert here: how did I let my pictures get so out of hand. I hold the stories to many of these pictures and there they sit in a plastic container. Do you have a special system for your photographs??
A bit later today, I will study the craft of photography. See it through another persons eyes. Although I have been shooting for ages, it seems this is an art I am learning, quite slowly. It really is a love in my life that takes tons of patience. I humbly accept that challenge. Shh... one of my goals in life, is to learn to shoot in each mode, on my camera; each and every aperture, all lighting situations. I'm not doing too bad, I think I have an understanding of most of them. Now I need to take that understanding and use it more, kick back the fear and go for it. ; ) I don't call my camera manual big daddy for the heck of it. Wink.
Hmm... wondering what your favorite mode to shoot in, may be?
A beautiful Monday, to you all. : )
20 ladlefuls of love:
I am absolutely in LOVE with your new photo header!
Happy Monday!
Honestly Christina- I can't shoot out of my auto setting. Each time I try and shoot in anything else I miss my shot by it ending up blurred. : (
I have sadly taken pictures in auto for 2 years. I need to get into a class or something.
This sounds like the sweetest day you have planned here.
your kind of clever with this picture and the appointment title. i love you to bits. : )
I try everything...every setting, every lighting change, every ISO....always always always I will be the one practicing and hoping for the best !!!
I'm in love with the "M" (manual) setting. It took a lot to get to the point of being able to use it. I started out with Auto, Portrait, moved to Close-up, eventually P and now M. It took seeing an old friends' photos on Flickr for me decide I had to learn to use the manual setting. The colors in his photos were so beautiful and just everything about those photos made me want to really understand my camera. Reading Bryan Peterson's books (which I see are on your bookshelf), the ones by Scott Kelby, and finally by Freeman Patterson have helped a lot. I also like Ken Rockwell's website (http://www.kenrockwell.com). If you have a Nikon or Canon, he tells you how to get the most out of your particular kind of camera.
That being said, I am surprised to hear you are fairly new to photography! I think your photos are stunning. You clearly have an artistic eye!
Amy Jerke*thank you sweetie, for the thoughtful comment. I have been shooting for years, but got stuck in a rut of being comfy with shooting in AV and a few others. I want to know what every shot looks like in every mode in each aperture, in all lighting conditions.
Needless to say, I'm excited to move on. : )
Hey Christina,
I usually take tons of photos on each setting- that way at least 2 or 3 come out half way decent...So you are saying that there is a better way?...Love the photo in your banner!
I used to read you when you were with typepad. I haven't been keeping up much lately with blogs (last year of art school) but I remember you saying you shot with a canon rebel, an older model. You obviously aren't shooting with that anymore, I assume. Right? : )
These pictures are incredible!!! xo I wouldn't mind shooting like you, not at all. You tend to capture some of the most real and life like shots I have ever seen.
I know what you mean. The need to know all you can about your camera is a great goal.
Can you share a bit about the process of your photo taking?
Shari
I love that you call your camera "big daddy" !!!! You are something else.
Christina you shoot in mode A V on a canon. Would that be Aperture Priority on a Nikon. I'm a bit confused about my camera. : )
What model of camera use. You photoshop??
Thank you.
You are a most wonderful photographer.
Hello from Paris, France.
Wow. You've inspired me to take my camera off of Auto! I can't decide if I'm dumb or lazy or scared...
Have fun today!
Like you, I'm practicing on all the settings, experimenting with light and shadow and different lenses. I learn something new every day, which is a wonderful thing. It's a slow process, but like love, anything important should never be hurried.
It sounds like you have a wonderful day planned with your daughter and otherwise! Enjoy!
As for photos, I've recently started copying them on DVDs and flashdrives, with an external hard drive back-up. It's not perfect, but it's a start. xoxox
You are so courageous! You step out of the box and try new things and that inspires me so much!
Well, that would have to be the only one I know so far. Auto. Love you.
I'm in awe of photographers... What a gift to capture beauty that others might pass by,
Its a pleasure to meet you,
May wings of peace surround you and yours,
Maithri
i had to take the time to read every single comment on this excellent post! you are a chef, a writer, a poetess, a photographer and a mamma extraordinaire! photography is only one of your many talents.
honey i am still trying to figure out what to shoot not to mention in what mode :) i take it very seriously though...learning and studying my craft. i love it! and you too dear heart.
XO
i love the new header - have i mentioned that already?!
when i got my slr last february i forced myself to jump right into using manual mode. as a back-up, i would carry my little point-and-shoot camera too. as a result the little camera saw a lot more use than the slr at first because i found using it so frustrating! but around april or may, something began to click (ugh! a pun!), and some things began to make sense.
i'm still a little slow with manual mode in new situations - catching things that are moving, or low light for example. and i have absolutely no clue how to work with external flash (not that i have one yet anyway). so there is still a lot to learn, but that's ok, the process is fun, as i know you know!
I love to shoot in manual mode. If things are moving about or I'm in a hurry I sometimes shoot in program but the dial always finds its way back to manual. it just feels right somehow. I love that your crafting included bedazzling! love shiny things. :-)
Aperture priority...and manual.
I never use auto, I screw it up and I have an auto-flash on auto that I despise.
I JUST bought the field guide, and am having a hoot studying it.
I'm stunned at saving my photos properly..cannot decide if I'm a disc girl or an external hard drive gal.
I'll figure it out one of these days! For now, Flickr! I'm paying for pro so let them store them.
xoxo
automatic. tee-hee ..
I put my camera in shutter speed just before the holiday and resolved not to change it .. it seems to be helping me learn to use it better.
I mostly use auto/no flash mode. I have slowly begun to experiment with different ISO settings and aperture priority. Occasionally I will use manual focus when needed. I really need to push myself to experiment more. :)
